How to get to the Maraú Peninsula? Tips on airports, roads and transfers.

The Maraú Peninsula may seem like a distant destination, but the journey to paradise is part of the adventure. If you are planning your trip, this guide will give you all the tips to get here worry-free.

Option 1: Arriving by plane (nearest airports)

The two nearest airports to the Maraú Peninsula are Ilhéus (IOS) and Salvador (SSA).

• From Ilhéus (IOS): This is the most common route. From there, you can take a taxi, rent a car, or hire a direct transfer to Taipu de Fora. The drive takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.

• From Salvador (SSA): The route via Salvador is longer but offers more flight options. From there, you can take a ferry to Itaparica Island and then a bus to Camamu, or go directly to Camamu by executive bus. From Camamu, just take a speedboat to Barra Grande. You also have the option to rent a car and drive to the Maraú Peninsula; the journey takes about 6.5 to 7 hours.

Option 2: The Overland Route

If you are coming by car, be prepared for dirt roads in the final stretch of the trip. The access highways are well-signposted, but the final section requires attention. Renting a 4x4 vehicle can be a good idea, especially during the rainy season.

Option 3: The Sea Route

For a different experience, the best option is to arrive by boat from Camamu. The city has a port with speedboats that take about 30 minutes to reach Barra Grande. This is the fastest way to arrive. If you are traveling by car, there are private parking lots in Camamu where you can leave your vehicle and make the crossing. Upon arriving in Barra Grande, you will find options for taxis or ATV (quad bike) rentals to get around the Peninsula.
